You’ve heard of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics).

And you’ve probably heard of STEAM. That’s all the above plus the Arts (e.g. visual art, design, music, dance, drama, history, geography, new media and more).

Or have you heard of STREAM - Science, Technology, Reading & Writing, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics?

Increasingly, schools all over the world are recognising the importance of a multidisciplinary education. Why? Think about it: when we were little ones, before we entered school and went through boring academic drills, did you know what “subjects” or “disciplines” were? Truth is kids don’t separate science from art or math from language — they see the world as one big, connected playground.

So What Does a Multidisciplinary Approach Look Like?

Honestly, it can take place anywhere and anytime. It’s as simple as this: parents working with their little ones to create a garden at home, even a small one on their windowsill or the balcony.

Why a Multidisciplinary Approach Works Wonders for Little Ones

A well-rounded education involves more than just academic achievements!

It encompasses cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development, which are all equally important for a child's overall growth and the development of twenty-first-century skills.

Learning actually doesn’t happen in silos. That’s why a multidisciplinary approach is going to be a game-changer. By weaving together different subjects into one cohesive learning experience, we can nurture curious, confident little ones to grow and be ready to take on anything!

(And it’s not just preschools. Primary and secondary schools in Singapore are already embracing a multidisciplinary approach to teach essential 21st century skills like creative problem-solving and critical thinking so the next gen is well-prepared for challenges and opportunities of the modern world.)

So here's a shameless plug: DatBox does all this with our multidisciplinary learning kits!

We know being a Singaporean parent is tough.

Work goes on all the time but we also need quality time to spend with our little ones, whether it is learning or playing together. That's why we developed DatBox: we do the planning and creating for busy parents so you can focus on enjoying meaningful experiences and activities with your little ones.
